Mary Carroll
I was an art major at the University of Minnesota and had a career as an award winning photojournalist for 20 years (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize) and graphic designer for 30 years.
Recently retired in October 2023, I decided to take up art again. Instead of retraining myself in realistic art, I decided to concentrate on abstract art. After struggling several frustrating months working with watercolor and acrylic painting, I found my medium... working with acrylic paint and a gelli plate to create monoprints which I sometimes add a bit of collage to. I’m totally obsessed with the medium and can hardly think about anything else! There is so much to learn... I’ve only scratched the surface of what can be done with a gelli plate, and am excited about what the future will bring!
